Thousands of visitors are expected to descend on the Georgian town of Blandford Forum as the biennial Georgian Fayre starts on the 5th May Bank Holiday, between 10 am – 6pm. The Blandford Georgian Fayre is one of the largest in the south and a highlight on the 2014 calendar - certainly a date for your diary.
You will be able to wander through the traffic free streets of the town centre at your leisure with the stunning Georgian architecture as a fitting backdrop to this huge street fayre and market, where over 20,000 people are expected. The fayre offers a wide selection of entertainment to keep visitors, young or old, entertained throughout the day, with street stalls, traditional fairground entertainers and plenty of music and dance to enjoy.
This year’s highlights include:

Over the last 22 years of the Blandford Georgian Fayre links have been forged throughout the local community, bringing offers of help that has ensured the growing success of the Fayre, year on year. “We couldn’t do it on our own”, says Janice Driscoll, President of the organising committee, “It really is a testament to a whole community pulling together. Time and commitment are given freely by the committee and the many people and organisations throughout the town.” Funds raised by the Fayre have directly benefited Blandford and its local community in excess of 1 million pounds.

The Fayre opens at 10am with a parade through the town along East Street along to the Corn Exchange. There will be entertainment throughout the day in the Market and Crown Meadows. Free parking is available in several places around the town, shown on the map available at -

A Message To Blandford From The Highways Agency

Dear Blandford folk, it must be conceded that this blog is rather disjointed at the moment but having decided to take some time out from Blandford, I try to puff this blog up by writing about more personal issues. I tend to check the email box for this site on Sunday's and hence today found a message from the

for you good people of Blandford, so here's some excerpts from the said email -

...despite the lack of widespread snow and ice, visits to our campaign website are noticeably up on last year and our survey results at the end of December show more road users making preparations for severe weather.
That’s good news, but the winter has a long way to go.  In the last two years we saw more snow and ice in January and February (traditionally the coldest month) and even into April!

All types of severe weather are covered by our winter campaign, but the recent flooding may have caused people to take their eye of the snowball. So we want to keep reminding people to carry a winter kit, drive according to the conditions and to plan their journeys.

The key messages remain

  • Be prepared – is your vehicle ready for winter?
  • Be informed – have you checked the latest traffic and weather?

Our gritters have actually been just as busy as they were in 2011/12, often working during cold nights to reduce the risk of ice in the morning.  We are ready if more snow arrives. If you could help encourage your employees, members and customers to be ready too, then it will help us keep the motorways and major A roads running during severe weather.

If you have contact with local schools then please draw their attention to the resources available for Key Stage 2
For older visitors to your website there is free quiz here

Blandford Car Show In Pictures (Part 1)

A car show was held in Blandford Forum @ the Ham car park, near Morrisons supermarket. It had a decent turnout despite the rather grey day, let's hope it's the first of many car shows to be held in the town...

If you're the car owner please feel free to contact The Blandford Buzz if your car is featured in any of these photos and you wish to add a brief commentary (as I know zilch about cars)...

The steps leading from Windmill Road, toward Blandford Fire Station

A fallen tree in the same location as above

Blackberries in the same car park as above

@ the rear of the car park is this natural delight

A wise old tree in the just off the car park

Not sure what this is, perhaps it's a sun dial ???

Run DMs - Don't Walk This Way

My friend and I were walking towards the Blandford Crown Meadows, as we had decided to take a stroll in this green and pleasant pasture, so we walked past a few new build houses, turned left so that we were walking past the back gardens of the said properties because the Crown Meadows was clearly in view from this vantage point.

As we were working out how we would "overcome the wire fencing" a man came towards us from his house to the rear of his garden and strictly, rudely and in a dictatorial fashion made it clear to us that the land behind the houses, including his, was not to be trespassed as it was private land, he stated that there was a private area sign, my friend who really is a gentleman hastily apologised with artful diplomacy, though I didn't say anything to this particular man. Our anticipated wander on the meadows was substituted for a walk down to Blandfords blue bridge, oh well at least that's not a private area...

Blandford Buzz says "No Run DMC Walk This Way that day then, just Run Away In Your DM Boots and Don't Walk This Way..."
