The Farmers Market Visits Blandford Forum - Apple Catering Cakes

Hello reader, I hope all is well in your world and I that you're enjoying this time just after Christmas but before the new year - I expect you're busy making plans for the new years eve...

The Blandford Buzz has been running a series of articles on the Dorset Farmers Market which once a month "sets up shop" in Blandford on a Friday morning.

Wow Jo & Eve sell their Apple Catering Cakes from their farm cottage door !
At Quarr Farm, Quarr Lane, (Off) Halls Road, Lytchett Matravers, Poole, BH16 6EP. (telephone first on 01929-459368 to check they're in).

I noticed that Jo from Apple Catering Cakes was wearing a Christmas hat in the photographs I took of him and his stall, therefore this article would look out of place if it was featured in the New Year, when Christmas would be well and truly over !

A while ago I emailed husband and wife team Jo & Eve, asking them for the run down on their small and unique Apple Catering Cakes business and the email that Jo sent in response is so thorough, there's not much for me to do other than up- load a few pics and to copy and paste...x

In Jo's words -

Eve trained as a chef at Bournemouth Catering College after leaving school and has been a professional cook all her working life.  For many years she ran her own catering business (Apple Catering) but, on Jo's retirement as an officer from Dorset Fire & Rescue Service 11 years ago, just as Dorset Farmers' Markets were starting up, decided that she'd end her catering business and devote herself to making traditional home made cakes that Jo would sell for her at Farmers Markets.

And so Apple Catering Cakes started, with Jo helping. They attend Dorset Farmers' Markets at Blandford, Broadstone and Dorchester each month as well as attending various country fairs and shows and selling from their farm cottage door.

Eves homemade cakes and mince pies were very popular at the Farmers Market and sold quickly
Eve cooks pretty much full-time in their picturesque thatched cottage's kitchen in order to satisfy most of the demand, as she cooks all the cakes herself.  At this time of year she'll be cooking 6000 mince pies in addition to her usual cakes !  She cooks because she loves to, and gets great pleasure from all the complimentary comments that she receives.

A customer approaches the Apple Catering Cakes stall
Jo (says humorously) he's the quiet retiring half of the business and just basks in his wife's glory !!!

The customer shows her support of the Farmers Market by making a purchase

The Blandford Buzz says judging by the fact that Jo (who always seems to have a smile on his face) is more than confident serving the public in Blandford at the Farmers Market and that he even belongs to a dramatics society (more about that in a future post) one would hardly think that Jo is quiet and retiring even in the business of Apple Catering Cakes...
