I must remember to...appreciate electricity when there's not a power cut...

I was just about to start writing todays blog post, well staring at the computer screen, hoping to conjure up some ideas - writers block or bloggers block - anyway, so what happens? zmmm...(in the second that electricity cuts out it makes a certain noise, though my description may not quite be an accurate description of the sound that you probably know I'm talking about) the electric goes off.  I woke up in the early hours this morning about 2am(ish) and the electric went off then and at the time I noticed that the router lights suddenly stopped flashing and at the same time the street light directly outside went off - and it was because of this that when the electric went off today roundabout midday - I immediately suspected that it was another power cut, which it was.

After about half an hour of waiting for the electric to come back on and bemoaning the fact that I couldn't have a cup of tea, not that I'd had any thoughts of having a cupa while the elecy was on, I popped round to my next door neighbors, who are the nicest people anyone could wish to live next door to, there should be a best neighbors award and a TV documentary called Britains Nicest Neighbors, I digress that's another blog post - back to the matter of this post.

So anyway my kindly next door neighbor told me that Southern Electric were digging up a nearby road and that was probably why the electric was off. So I walked to the said road and asked the workers if they had cut off the electricity and their answer was yes..."When will you be putting it back on" ? I asked them rather self centredly and I continued in the same self absorbed tone "It's cold and I need a cup of tea and I've got paperwork to print up and after that I've got a blog post to write..." I think people who work outside for electric companies are used to members of the public acting in a manner such as just described, "Not long now luv, we had to cut it off but it will soon be back on"...

A few hours later the electric power resumed, making the familiar zmmm sound , "Hooray" I said out loud at the top of my voice "Thank God for electricity" - and now I'm a little grateful for the power outage, it gave me the subject matter of today's post !!!  It's kind of curious though isn't it? that we only seem to notice electricity in it's absence.

It's a good idea now that winter is well and truly here, to make sure you have enough power-cut supplies you know what I mean, candles, mini portable gas hob, torches, blankets etc...x

Do you know that - no one actually invented electricity as it's a natural force that has always existed, however Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison etc uncovered the methods to harness the awesome power of electricity.
