Crown Estate Public Consultation Sat 21st Jan (Part 3) - Public Opinion

The Crown Estate public consultation was held for 2 days running at Blandford Corn Exchange last week and it was attended by a few hundred members of the public, The Blandford Buzz managed to talk to a few of them at the consultation, so here are a few more various local opinions about the proposed housing development at the Crown Meadow/Bryanston Park...

took their time to read the 14 boards

1) Peter said "I'm concerned about building on flood plains as the houses wont get insurance and any houses built there would also get damp, it's always wet there". Against


2) Richard & Jane Richard said "If there's no flood risk then I don't have too many objections, though I am concerned about road access as the roads are probably too narrow to deal with this" Partially For


Jane said "It will be good if they're going to push the town forward and not lean too much on the past".  For    
                                                                                                                                                    
3) Tom said "I think it's necessary, so it's a good thing, there needs to be affordable housing, my grandson can't get on the housing list because he has no children".  For


4) (Another) Peter said "The Crown Estate should say Ltd, at the moment it makes it look like an authority, I resent this" (voiced whilst furiously jabbing his finger at the Land West Blandford Feedback From form). Against


5) A man who wished to remain anonymous said "The impact is far less than I thought it would be, housing is inevitable and essential, so I think this development would be reasonable and there are potentially a lot worse developments in a lot worse locations". For


6) A man who wished to remain anonymous said "I have lived in Blandford for 30 years, looking at this landscape board, would it it look different if it had been taken from a slightly different angle? with the trees possibly not obscuring the view?". Undecided

7)  A married couple who wished to remain anonymous the husband said "We would like to see some other alternatives" and the wife said "We're just getting the Crown Estates side of things and we don't want another Poundbury". Against x 2


8) Louise said "I'm angry about this, it appears to have been pushed against other options, my eldest child is aged 4 and attends the Milldown school, the class is already over subscribed and there's the traffic issues as well, if you have a pushchair you already have to go on the verge because the pavement is so narrow and passersby have to step into the road, if it goes ahead, it will cause 500 extra people to be going up and down, now if they built no more than 50 homes I would be more open to it and the site isn't just scrub land it's beautiful". Mostly Against


9) Colin said "I'm concerned about affordable housing, there needs to be affordable housing, so the people who would live there can work in this town and make a difference to Blandfords economy". For


10) A married couple who wished to remain anonymous the husband said "We're indifferent" and the wife said "We haven't really made up our minds, we can see both sides". Undecided x 2
