A Message To Blandford From The Highways Agency

Dear Blandford folk, it must be conceded that this blog is rather disjointed at the moment but having decided to take some time out from Blandford, I try to puff this blog up by writing about more personal issues. I tend to check the email box for this site on Sunday's and hence today found a message from the

for you good people of Blandford, so here's some excerpts from the said email -

...despite the lack of widespread snow and ice, visits to our campaign website are noticeably up on last year and our survey results at the end of December show more road users making preparations for severe weather.
That’s good news, but the winter has a long way to go.  In the last two years we saw more snow and ice in January and February (traditionally the coldest month) and even into April!

All types of severe weather are covered by our winter campaign, but the recent flooding may have caused people to take their eye of the snowball. So we want to keep reminding people to carry a winter kit, drive according to the conditions and to plan their journeys.

The key messages remain

  • Be prepared – is your vehicle ready for winter?
  • Be informed – have you checked the latest traffic and weather?

Our gritters have actually been just as busy as they were in 2011/12, often working during cold nights to reduce the risk of ice in the morning.  We are ready if more snow arrives. If you could help encourage your employees, members and customers to be ready too, then it will help us keep the motorways and major A roads running during severe weather.
