Oh no, Erika's (correct spelling ?) prom dress and other glamorous clothes shop seems to be no more - what a shame. I used to enjoy looking through the shop window and imagining myself in some of the mostly gorgeous prom gowns - though admittedly I thought some of the gowns were a bit over the top and verging on freaky but nevertheless over the few years that Erika's brought some ball room glitz to Blandford, the shop always seemed to be well frequented.
I wonder what went wrong? to hazard a guess it's likely that the recession has hit this shop hard and I suppose it doesn't help that prom dresses tend to be worn only once or twice a year - round about June and perhaps at Christmas time for a ball. Then to make matters even harder for Erika/s and other independent prom dress shops, there are also online retailers and online auction sites where as long as the correct measurements are known, a great bargain can be snapped up at the click or two of a computer mouse. On a final thought - I hope that Erika (if that was her name who ran this now extinct shop) has decided that if you can't beat 'em, join 'em and is now selling the glorious gowns which once bedazzled so many on Erika's shop floor online, at least she wouldn't have shop fees to pay...
When I decided upon todays blog title, I thought it would be a good idea to interchange some of the words in the song Another One Bites The Dust by Queen - I'm sure you picked up on that as soon as you read the first two lines of todays post ! Anyway I decided to quickly go on YouTube to make sure that I'd got the words "correct", which I hadn't quite but hey up until now I didn't realise just how funking funky this tune is.
I mean when I hear it on the radio etc it's one of those songs I always sing along with but this morning when I listened to it, the song seemed to yell "dance to me" so I had a bit of an early morning kitchen rave to it, I now appreciate Another One Bites The Dust as being really cool, groovy and funky - yes I know I've already used the f word but the song really is !!! Then my youngest teenager got up for school and upon immediate entry in to the kitchen started to dance with me, we played it a few times and continued to dance and then my teenager calmed down and said "Mum is it normal to dance like this so early in the morning?" (8 am-ish) my teenager continued "Maybe we're both nutters"...
So here embedded below is the said number, I hope you feel the beat, get into the groove and have a mini kitchen rave to this one and don't worry if you dance in a nutty uncoordinated peculiar fashion - as its only a sweet short burst of temporary dance insanity ...x
